Zaad Freekeh Feast!

This month Zaad will bring you the flavours of spring in Palestine, and there is nothing that calls out spring than Freekeh and lamb!

Freekeh is a roasted green wheat, the wheat is harvested young and smoked in the fields, traditionally, the skins of the grain is then removed by rubbing movements, hence the word Freekeh is derived from the verb faraka which means rubbed. This process lends the grain a smokey earthy and rich flavour. This Middle Eastern supper food is cooked as an alternative to rice or added in soups and salads.

At Zaad this month we will present you Freekeh the way we serve it at big gatherings and special occasions, cooked in broth, topped with roasted almonds and served with roasted lamb or butternut squash for our vegetarian guests.

Along with this special dish, and as it is the norm at Zaad, we will be serving many more delicious dishes and dips to share. And by popular demand, the whole experience will end with Knafeh, only the most loved desert in Palestine!

At Zaad you will be enjoying a true Palestinian culinary experience. In addition to the most loved Palestinian and Middle Eastern dishes, we always serve traditional dishes with a modern twist that you may have never tried before, something our guests have told us they enjoyed a lot!

Your food will served at the beautiful Cafe G, a lovely local Cafe overlooking Peckham Rye and a 5 minute walk from Peckham High Street.
